Our Pomodoro Sauce dates back to early World War II when my grandparents, Bernardo and Carmella Lobaido, prepared their fresh sauce on a coal stove in the city of Palermo, Sicily. Bernardo and Carmella had two children, Frances and Peter. Peter LoBaido’s dream was to come to America.

Peter joined the Italian Merchant Marines with hopes of following his dream; he cooked and shared his parents’ Pomodoro Sauce with fellow Italian Sailors. In 1953 Peter finally arrived in America and a few years later he opened his first Pizza Restaurant in Queens, NY. Peter began to perfect the family’s famous Pomodoro Sauce at his Queen’s location.

Peter and his wife, Connie, had three children and in 1964 Bernardo LoBaido was born in Brooklyn, Ny. In 1983, the Lobaido family moved to Allentown, PA. Two years later, Bernardo followed the LoBaido family passion for Sicilian cuisine and opened his first restaurant in Bethlehem, PA. Bernardo LoBaido’s Pomodoro Sauce began to be enjoyed throughout the Lehigh Valley. Today, Lobaido’s Pomodoro Sauce is produced in Bethlehem, PA and is hand crafted in small batches using all natural ingredients, Sicilian style.
